Sandcastle

Rise/Set

I captured this early morning shot on a vacation in the Outerbanks, NC. The sun was just coming up over the Atlantic Ocean and the peacefulness of the empty beach matched my quiet mind.

When I came upon this sand creation I wondered about the children who created it. They fashioned several turrets with a tiny plastic figure standing on the center one. Built the day before it survived high tide and welcomed the new day.

I thought it would make an interesting foreground for a photo of the rising sun, so I steadied my iPhone and prepared to take the picture. Just then a line of seagulls flew into the viewfinder skimming the water in search of breakfast.

The timing was perfect and the vacation was pretty great as well!

  1. Love the angle, and perfect timing with the seagulls. From the way you took the photo, the sandcastle looks massive. That little toy figure looks so victorious 🙂 Sounds like a lovely vacation for you 🙂
