Blogging From A to Z Challenge – I

Intracoastal Waterway of Palm Beach

“I” is for Intracoastal Waterway, a 3,000 mile waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts in the United States.

I took an impromptu trip to West Palm Beach last week to visit friends and had a wonderful time! Unfortunately, their Internet wasn’t playing nice with Apple products; only one Android device would work, so I got behind on my A to Z Challenge. This post will get me current and I can start thinking/working on the letter J!

This photo was taken from the balcony of the condo on the eleventh floor; how’s that for a view? This area with the boats is the Intracoastal Waterway, separated by a thin strip of land, and the ocean is beyond.

I snapped this picture late in the day and love the pink and orange cast that the sun paints in the sky. Sunsets are some of my favorite photos; so relaxing that you can almost feel the breeze…

“E” is for embroidery; in this case an embroidery machine.

This is the first one I’ve ever seen and looks nothing like I expected. It was working fast and furiously on the ball cap (at the bottom) with the stitch count (located somewhere on the machine) well over one thousand.

We found it in the window of Design By U, a shop at Pointe Orlando, which is an outdoor shopping area on International Drive in Orlando, FL. The Pointe offers over 40 stores, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, and entertainment.

I think it’s a great idea to display the machine in the window; anything that has motion or lights is likely to catch one’s eye. It got our attention, so we stopped to watched for a bit and I snapped this picture.

It got me to thinking about how laborious hand embroidering is compared to this amazing little machine. Just another example of how technology speeds up so many tasks and increases productivity!

Blogging From A to Z Challenge

“A” is for Atlantic, as in Atlantic Ocean.

I was born in western Pennsylvania, about one hour north of Pittsburgh and ten minutes from the Ohio border. The ocean was out of reach except for vacations. My dad took us on a two week vacation every summer and Florida was a favorite destination.

I remember the first time I laid eyes on the Atlantic Ocean. I was five years old and had never seen a body of water so large  it reached all the way to the horizon. The memory of that first glimpse has remained with me for 55 years. The happy times we had on those vacations have remained as well.

I suppose those golden memories are the reason that I love the ocean and beach so much. I can sit for hours watching the waves and sky and it never gets old. But, could the allure be related to something more? Is it because our first home is a watery environment? Was I a viking or sailor in a previous life?

Whatever the reason, my goal was to one day live near the ocean. That goal was realized in late October when I moved to Florida. For now, I am “testing the waters” and enjoying it very much.
