Monday Again?

Monday Cat FINAL

“There aren’t enough days in the weekend.” ~ Rod Schmidt

What is it about Mondays that make it so hard to get out of bed?

A five day work week doesn’t last nearly as long as it used to. Before you can turn around it’s Friday again and time to start Happy Hour… or those house chores that are always waiting for our attention.

The weekends (or whatever your particular days off from work are) are spent doing: laundry, cleaning, shopping, cooking, banking, etc. If you’re lucky you can squeeze in time for things that YOU REALLY ENJOY (like blogging!)

Time seems to be speeding up in direct proportion to my advancing age and it’s getting kind’ve scary. The older I get, the more things I want to:

  • try
  • see
  • learn
  • discover
  • find
  • create
  • write
  • experience
  • taste
  • touch
  • smell…well, you get the picture.

I didn’t realize (when I was younger) how much there was to do once you got older! I was so busy going to work and raising a family that I didn’t understand how many interests I had. They were buried under the day-to-day responsibilities.

Bored GIFWhich is why I don’t get people who fear retirement.  OK, so you’re worried that you’ll be bored. Or that you’ll schlup around in a robe and slippers and watch TV 24/7. Well, I guess if your job was the only thing that gave you enjoyment, then I see your point. But, I digress…

These folks need to figure out who they were before responsibilities got in the way. Sure, you still have to do the day-to-day upkeep, but now you can devote whole chunks of time to doing what you love most.

Or, maybe you’re like I was and simply don’t know what you love to do. If so, there are many resources on the Internet to help you figure out what your strengths are and where your interests lie. Visit the local library. Take a class. Volunteer. Join a club.

Eventually, you’ll figure it out, your schedule will fill up, you’ll meet new people, and the only limits will be…time!

The Honor Challenge

This is a great challenge to initiate positive change in our various little corners of the world!

What if we reached out and honored people regularly.

Treating people with Importance, Respect, and Kindness should not be reserved for “Special” days…

What if every day we treated people like it was their birthday.
Called them up, sent a nice message, acknowledged them, took them to coffee or lunch, gave a smile and/or a compliment…

How would it be if our words and actions reflected that we cared about whether or not they felt important and valued!

Challenge: Pick a person, and for an entire week really treat them special, as if it was genuinely their birthday. Do this full-heartedly, but don’t mention the challenge to them or others. The Honor Challenge
Note: This is not necessarily about material gifts but a frame of mind, words, and actions (outreach.)

It’s important to think of how this will affect people make sure your words and actions are appropriate for the relationship you have…

Attn: Middle Aged Ladies (& Beyond)

I made a discovery today that I wanted to share with those of us gals who are staring down menopause (or looking at it in the rear view mirror.) You know…those of us who have to cover the gray and remove the wrinkles.

Old Lady dancing 2I’ve seen those ads that promise to make us look twenty years younger. Yeah, right.

But, there is something to be said for making us feel twenty years younger, which I believe is way more possible than changing how we look. And if we feel younger, maybe that will translate to how we look on the outside.

Anyway, music has always had an amazing effect on my mood. The right song, at the right time, can cause me to break into a smile or tears. The right song evokes memories of special people, places, and things.

Today, I was introduced to a singing group that evoked some amazing feelings (you may already be a fan.) The kind of feelings that can only be described as passion! Hearing these guys sing took me back to my younger self. Maybe you should give it a try; it’s a great way to get the old blood pumping and it’s more fun than traditional cardio.

Put away the wrinkle cream and the Clairol haircolor and feast your eyes (and your ears) on Il Divo!!
