Taken in 2011 in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this photo was one of a series of early morning shots that captured the rising sun. I had just taken a photography course and was eager to try out what I’d learned. Unfortunately, my camera was sub-par and I didn’t own an iPhone yet.
However, it sharpened my observation skills and I did get some decent captures during the “golden hour” that morning on the beach.
While the rising sun was still a tiny orb over the horizon, I focused on this sandcastle. With the tiny toy soldier, his rifle raised in victory, atop the turret and the seagulls gliding low over the water it made for a nice picture.
It makes for a lovely picture, and just loving the toy on the castle . . . is he doing his morning yoga!

Maybe yoga, or a victory salute? On the other hand, it could be surrender…to the surf that will eventually take out the castle!

Whichever camera you used, it made a beautiful photo. Love the sand & waves & birds, but that stripe across the sun – awesome! 🙂
