Daylight

Taken in 2011 in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, this photo was one of a series of early morning shots that captured the rising sun. I had just taken a photography course and was eager to try out what I’d learned. Unfortunately, my camera was sub-par and I didn’t own an iPhone yet.

However, it sharpened my observation skills and I did get some decent captures during the “golden hour” that morning on the beach.

While the rising sun was still a tiny orb over the horizon, I focused on this sandcastle. With the tiny toy soldier, his rifle raised in victory, atop the turret and the seagulls gliding low over the water it made for a nice picture.

Electric light

I pulled this photo from the archives. I took it on a trip to NYC years ago. We didn’t see the show, but I snapped a picture of the marquee when we were walking on Broadway.

We’re surrounded by electric lights and it makes me wonder how dark it must have been at night before Ben Franklin’s remarkable discovery in 1752 and Edison’s amazing invention in 1878!
